There once a girl in Illinois named Maria Kanellis who's family loved 2 things: Cars and professional wrestling. From a young age, she went to car shows and spent every weekend watching her favorite wrestlers on tv with her dad. As this girl got older, she began to love other things. Like dancing and fashion. She spent much of her life on the stage, dancing like there was no tomorrow. And at school, she was always stuck out due to her interesting sense of style. When she finally graduated from high school, she went on to college to major in fashion, modeling on the side to make ends meet. Eventhough she still loved wrestling, she hadn't really kept up with it for a few years. One day, while on a shoot, Maria was approached to take part in the WWE's first ever Diva Search. When she heard about it, she was overjoyed! She could finally get back into enjoying the sport she was born to loved and possibly even work for the WWE. Next thing she knew, she was flying out for tryouts and made it to the final 10. After weeks of competing with 9 other women, Maria was eliminated from the competition, she placed fifth. Upon her elimination, she flipped off the camera and made her exit. Upset, but determined, she vowed to keep trying to break into the business, calling the company on a regular basis to see if there were any openings. In late 2004, Maria's prayers were answered and she was hired by the WWE to be their backstage interviewer. That set the stage for her, as she went on to model for them and began training to wrestle.
Ever since joining the company, Maria has been a fan favorite, which lead to her regularly hosting WWE's "Kiss Cam". After reuniting with her first love, she was able to bring her love of fashion into the mix, designing her own in ring attire and some of the pieces she wore when she posed for Playboy Magazine in early 2008. Maria is currently on Smackdown, which airs every Friday night. She recently won the chance to face DIVAS Champion Michelle McCool sometime in the near future.
I hope my introduction up there was a good enough to give you a little background info on me. I wrote that back in 2009; during a time in my life where everything was looking up and I had so much to look forward to. In Feb 2010, My season of Celebrity Apprentice was about to air, I was chosen as DIVA OF THE YEAR by the WWE fans, I was HUGE fan favorite; everything was going my way. Then the day before my birthday, I got a call from the higher ups basically saying that my services were no longer needed. I was definitely caught off guard, especially with Celebrity Apprentice a week away from airing (which would've given the company so much exposure. In the end, they still got that and thensome). As the days went by and I had time to think about it, My being let go was for the best. Months before my release, I had expressed to the company that I wanted to do some other things as well: a little acting, working on making an album, things like that. At the time they thought it was a great idea but with the WWE, they want to be your top priority and when I wanted to juggle that along with other dreams I had, they couldn't handle it. Business is business, I understand that now, no hard feelings, I promise. Besides who knows, I could wind up going back someday but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Since my release I've been very very busy. I went on to do promo for Apprentice; I didn't win but I made it pretty far. After that, I went back to concentrating on my music. I was taking music and acting lessons and I wound up releasing 6 songs on iTunes. I've gone back to modeling, which I've always enjoyed. It pays the bills while I dabble in other things. I cohost a show on AFTERBUZZ tv where I talk about tv shows mostly, but whatever happens to pop up in my lil head at the moment. I've just put out my own perfume line on kaponga.com with 3 different scents: Mimosa, Sandalwood, & Ylang Ylang. ANNNNDD (last 'and' for a while I promise) I'm also in this little series called "The Purple Plague" where I play Lady Jane, kicking some zombie ass ( check the trailer here: http://youtu.be/FaCUw8LgnQM )
So yeah, I've definitely been keeping myself busy. I didn't even mention all the wrestling related conventions I still go to for autograph signings, All the lessons I'm still taking, spending time with my family in Illinois while trying to keep up with my friends in LA. I wouldn't have it any other way, no lie.
Despite having been in front of tv cameras every week for years, I'm actually quite a shy girl. So if I don't say much upon our first meeting, it's nothing that you did, I swear. I find just about everything funny. When you've worked around as many guys as I do, you have to have a great sense of humor. I'm a little dorky. I may not be the one picking my nose or farting in time with "Mary had a Little Lamb" but I am the one who will run around backstage with a box attached to my waist singing a very loud rendition of Dick in a Box, which still cracks me up.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the stuff from my childhood. Like Jem and Thundercats. Punky Brewster, Doug. I loved the Power Rangers growing up, Tommy was and still is my favorite, what a hottie he was. I love slapbracelets and sweatshirts that hang off the shoulder ala Flashdance. I absolutely love the Backstreet Boys, Michael and Janet Jackson, and I love MADONNA.
I have a black long haired chihuahua named Gemini, he's the only man in my life right now, and I don't mind that one bit. I got him a companion not too long ago; her name is Ruby and they're inseperable (no babies for my babies though!) My favorite color is Green and I love leopard/tiger print so if I can get the two combined somehow: shirt, pants, stuffed animals..I'm all over it!
Baseball season is finally underway, and eventhough I don't get to watch as much of it as I'd love, I'm terribly excited about it! Gotta root for my Cubbies!!! I love going to games and getting a hot dog with 'kraut, onions, pickles, mustard, ketchup and cheese..it's a greasy mess but its SO good. What food do you have to have when you go to a game? I wanna hear all about it!
I end this entry hoping it gave you a little insight into me and my life. I hope to meet all of you soon!
